July 2018 Newsletter

Summer has finally arrived in full swing. We are officially 14 days into the season and the weather has hot than hot. Beaches and pools are crowded and the energy supplier are all grinning because the use of electricity to run fans and air conditioners are at an all time high right now.  Families are enjoying day trips and some are on vacations. Its a fun time of the year. I pray the Lord keeps us all safe. 4th of July has come and gone. It has left many with memories of cookouts, weekend getaways, beautiful fireworks but most of all time with family and friends just enjoying independence day.

Check on your neighbors in this oppressive heat especially the elders. Make sure they have their windows open and or a fan or air conditioner running to keep their place cool and are drinking water to stay hydrated. There are local senior centers that will pick the elderly up and take them to their facility that is air condition during the day to keep cool. They provide activities for them to stay busy during their time spent there.

Homemade Iced Tea

Fill a stock pot or medium saucepan with cold water, (around 8 cups) add 12-16 tea bags depending on how you like the strength of your tea. I like to taste more tea than water. Bring the water to a boil for about five minutes on medium heat, then cut the fire off and cover with a lid. Let the tea steep about 15 minutes. Afterwards remove tea bags, let cool, then transfer to a pitcher, cover and refrigerate. I don’t add sugar. I allow the drinkers of it to add sugar as the please or not, some like it plain, some like it with sugar and fresh lemon slices as I do. I even squeeze some fresh lemon juice from the lemons in my glass as well as adding slices. Make it how you like it but this is the basis of making all homemade ice tea.

Many make cold brewed tea minus the boiling of the water part. Combine 8 cups cold water and 10- 12 tea bags in a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate 15 to 36 hours, until it’s the strength you like. Remove the tea bags and sweeten and garnish as you desire.

Visionary of the month: Cynthia G. Boyer

This woman is no stranger to me. I have known Cynthia Boyer her for over two decades. We met when we both worked at Temple Law School. She is a wife, mother of four and grandmother. She is an author, graphic designer, and entrepreneur. Eleven years ago, Cynthia along with her husband Bill decided to go into business together. They both suffered from dry skin and she couldn’t find any moisturizers in the store that worked so she created her own body butter. Beauty and the Face is her brainchild. It’s no easy task going into business and being your own financial backing while building it but she is determined to share what she herself put together to hydrate her own skin with others.

Q: Cynthia, Where did you get your entrepreneurial spirit?

Cynthia: My entrepreneurial spirit is a part of my gifts and creativity. I love to write which is how it all started for me. When I was a little girl I was always writing songs. I thought I was going to become a songwriter and maybe someday I will. When I became an adult I started writing poetry and real-life like short stories. Through my writing I discovered the gift of graphic design and the two seem go hand-in-hand. It’s almost like a marriage and what I mean by that is when I write poetry I like to create a design around my poems.

Q: What was the deciding factor that made you want to go into business for yourself?

Cynthia: I had to go into business for myself. It was like I didn’t have a choice really because I knew working for someone else would limit me and keep me from using my creativity. I feel like a rich reservoir that keeps getting replenished and I love what I do. I have endless opportunities being presented to me everyday and I do mean everyday. It feels absolutely amazing to be able to implement my own unique ideas into my business. I pour something new in my little empire everyday.

Q: What do you think makes your body butter different from the rest on the market?

Cynthia: Ok, so you want me to write a book!!! My body butter is different because of the health properties that I use to design the formula. It is a rich recipe of buttery gold. I use organic butters and a very long list of antioxidants that are super healthy for the skin. I suffer not just from dry skin but from super sensitive skin and I wanted something that would really nourish my skin, I mean really sink down into my fibers to give me the silky soft-to-the touch glowing skin I pictured having. The other thing that makes my body butter different is that I mix it all by hand from start to finish. I think it’s important to blend it by hand because I can get all the lumps out giving it a smooth texture to ensue that the butter goes on the skin easily and smoothly. With the powerful resins and skin moistening nutrients that I use it really is a unique formula that works and that’s important for me to provide and offer to my customers.

Q: How do you advertise your product?

Cynthia: I advertise the old-fashioned way; word of mouth and on Facebook. I am also on Instagram, but word of mouth has worked wonders for me.

Q:  How do you hope to see Beauty and the Face grow in the next couple of years?

Cynthia: I hope to see Beauty and the Face, Love for the Skin on the dressers of homes of people everywhere and all around the globe. My faithful team and I have what we truly believe is going to be skin conditioning and skin changing because it is all natural goodness and remarkable skincare products. We want Beauty and the Face to be every woman’s go to must have moisturizer at an affordable price. Now I know and completely understand that the market is saturated with body butter products but I just believe in Beauty and the Face wholeheartedly because of the goals that I have in place. My main goal and focus is to provide a very high quality superior body butter that will change the look and feel of our customers skin making it soft as ever with a glow that never leaves their skin!

Q:  What advice can you give to others who might be contemplating going into business for themselves?

Cynthia: I would say do it and start right at this very moment. Going into business and working for yourself is one of the most spectacular and I do mean the best decision anyone/woman can do for themselves. It gives women the chance to showcase her creativity in such a powerful life changing way. It gives women the opportunity to build foundations and erect monuments that have the awesome ability to change lives and to me transforming and positively impacting lives is exactly what life is about. Being a business owner means you can create and design your business your way thereby setting up yourself for long lasting success. It also means that there will be never ever be a cap on how much money one can make. It’s possible to make seven figures or more. So I say do it and do it now. There is no greater time like the present and there is no one greater than you!!!
